Naughty Newfies?: With two films already made here, adult entertainment company ponders production facility in province

If you think of the adult film industry and how it thrives, you'd probably imagine it requiring a lot of very sexual people in need of cash, willing to show their butts, elbows and other body parts onscreen.

If you take that theory and apply it to the situation here in Newfoundland - plenty of friendly and frisky people, a lacking economy, etc. - it might make some wonder why such a profitable industry hasn't set up here like it has in numerous other places.

Well, like it or not, that might soon change. An adult actor named 'Keisha' (less formally, 'Naughty Newfie') has already made two films in this province.

Born and raised in Stephenville, the 24-year-old started exotic dancing at Jack and Jill's in Corner Brook about a year or two ago and took it from there.

"I wasn't really making any money, so when I saw an ad for a bar in Niagara Falls, I went out there," she says.

"I came back to Newfoundland and put my name and profile online for a job in the (adult film) industry, and someone contacted me."

She began working with OSK Productions, an Ontario-based company, and starred in a couple of films - Naughty Newfie: My 1st and Very Naughty Newfie: My 1st.

Both were filmed on location in Stephenville, Corner Brook and Toronto.

The second DVD will be released in January at an adult film awards show in Las Vegas. It follows the story of a Newfoundland girl who gets rather curious and promiscuous while her husband is away fishing.

The series will continue as Keisha travels to various cities throughout Canada, making it based on a true story, so to speak.

The president of the production company - who wished to have his name printed only as 'Mark S.' - came up with the idea for the name, along with Keisha and her boyfriend at the time.

Part of the reason for it was to go along with the themes in the second film. The rest of it, Mark S. says, was because of a need for something new in the industry.

"There's just so much content out there, you have to differentiate."

The Naughty Newfie concept is definitely different. Mark S. says he receives daily emails about it.

"People love it."

Currently Keisha is looking at performing in some educational videos, which OSK hopes couples will use together. Mark S. comments that, with this material, he's looking to improve the image many have of the industry.

"I think there's going to be a movement. (Adult film) isn't going to be thought of as something for the dirty old man in a trench coat anymore."

Beyond that, he discussed the possibility of setting up a facility in Newfoundland to film material, in turn creating jobs and contributing to the economy.

"We're working on something called Naughty Newfies, so an industry there is a possibility. It's a challenge for someone like me, but it could happen. Why not, right? B.C., Ontario, and Quebec have (adult film) scenes. Why not Newfoundland?"
